Every morning, I wake up and find at least 10 different emails in my inbox offering some type of virtual coaching or online training. Every gym and trainer knows that people need help figuring out how to stay in shape even when the gyms are all closed.
But after reading through the emails, looking through the details, and watching multiple sessions, I saw one big problem: almost nobody is offering a real training program. Instead, everyone is selling, or giving away, a bunch of workouts.
Some trainers are on Facebook or Zoom several days a week. Many are online every day. They are usually shot in their home, garage or their gym. If you watch them like I have, you will find that most online offerings are just taking a bunch of exercises that can be done without a gym and then throwing them all together without a whole lot of rhyme or reason. That’s fine if all you want to do is sweat, but it’s not so great if your goal is to actually make progress.
To me, the difference between doing a several random workouts until things get back to normal and following a real training program sums up an important choice, we all have to make right now.
People who want to get fit can choose to just get by, or we can choose to find a way to get better.
Gyms and trainers can choose to do what everyone else is doing, or stand out and offer something that delivers value over and above what everyone else is doing.
Yes, times are tough for a lot of people right now, but the good thing is that when it comes to fitness, there are always things we can do to get better.
It doesn’t take a gym or a ton of equipment to get fit. But the one thing it does take is a real program.
If you want to get fit while we are in stay at home mode, find a program. They are out there, If you are a gym or trainer, invest a little more time and offer a real program that delivers results. Your clients will thank you, and stay with you when all this is over. That sounds like a win/win to me.
